Are you an advanced table tennis player looking to improve and add precise power and spin to your game? If yes then this is the rubber for you. A few months ago I was looking for a table tennis blade rubber that would give me power with control.
A lot of rubbers don’t have both of these features at the same time but this one with its Spring Sponge Technology does. I have owned a lot of Butterfly Tenegery products but these were mostly from the FX series.
I found that the 05 HARD uses a harder sponge that provides us with more power and precision compared to all the Tenergies on the FX series. This rubber is better on the forehand as it is more powerful and is made for offensive play.
I have been playing table tennis for a long time now and have played a lot of tournaments and that is why I can tell that this rubber isn’t for beginners.
It has more power and therefore amateur-level players would have a harder time controlling the ball. If you are a beginner I would recommend any rubber from the FX series, especially the Tenergy 05 FX.
Forehand shots and smash shots are amazing with this rubber. I tried using it on my backhand and it wasn’t as great but still got the job done, I would say that it is better at defense than most powerful, offensive play rubbers.
The lower throw angle makes serve returns easier and loops and counter blocks more quickly. It puts your opponent off and they make a lot of mistakes which increases your chance of winning.
All the said, no matter how good the rubber is, everything depends on your technique so make sure to play well and give it your all!

Let us take a deeper dive into the features and PROS and CONS of this rubber.
1. Speed:
This tenergy is the fastest one I have ever owned. At first, you will feel like the rubber is too slow but after a couple of days, it will break and provide us with that fast gameplay.
Its hard surface provides powerful shits which means that the ball travels faster which gives your opponent less time to react. The smash shots with this rubber are incredible because of how much power it can produce.
Because this is a higher speed rubber I like to use it on my forehand rather than my backhand. I would recommend you use the Tenergy 05 or any other rubber from the Butterfly Tenery FX series.

2. Spin:
This rubber has a great spin and is pretty flexible. If you play games with a lot of spin shots then this rubber is great otherwise I would recommend you get one with a softer sponge such as in the FX series.
3. Sponge density:
This rubber is pretty dense compared to other cheaper rubbers. Due to this, there is always direct contact and the ball goes deep producing powerful shots. The ball goes where you want and leaves the opponent under a lot of pressure due to the quick return.
4. Hardness:
This rubber is known for having higher hardness compared to any other kind of rubbers, it is close to 45 which is pretty high.
The hardness is great as again it provides us with more powerful shots and allows for offensive play but there is a downside to it which I will talk about later in the article.
What blades will this go well with?
The Tenergy 05 Hard will go well with pretty much every racket but there are a few that it will pair up excellently with:
1. All Innerforce layer series of blades
4. Timo Boll ALC, ZLC, and ZLF series

- This Butterfly rubber enables highly dynamic play with even more precision, power, and spin compared to others in the Tenergy series

What shots does it play well on?
We already mentioned that this rubber is great for offensive play, this means forehand shots. Smash shots, topspin shots, drop shots, cross-court passing shots pair well with this rubber.
More defensive shots such as blocking, backhand shots, etc. are good with this rubber too but I prefer it more for my forehand.
Cons:
We’ve already talked about the PROS, now it’s time to talk about the CONS of this rubber. The problem I have had with all of the Butterfly Tenergy products is that they are too expensive.
Sure, they are high-quality and use an advanced Spring Sponge Technology but I feel like $80 is a little too excessive as most people generally buy two rubbers to complete their racket and this takes the bill up to a whopping $160!
One concern I do have with the hardness of this rubber is that it has a higher chance of cracking if exposed to super-high pressure, this is very counterproductive to the purpose of the rubber which is to provide us with powerful gameplay.
My last issue is that this rubber is very bad at slow shots due to its fast, high-speed nature. There is nothing that can be done to fix it and we are gonna have to live with fast-paced offensive gameplay when playing with this rubber sheet.

FAQs about the Butterfly Tenergy 05 Hard Table Tennis Rubber:
Does this come with two in a pack?
No, this comes in a pack of one and therefore you should buy two. I would recommend buying one black and one red as it helps you differentiate between your FH and BH.
What is the difference between this and the Tenergy 05?
This rubber has a harder sponge which allows for more power, the tenergy 05 has a medium-level sponge which allows for equal power and control.
Is this for beginners?
I wouldn’t recommend beginners use this rubber as it is on a pretty advanced level. Due to its high speed, beginners would find it harder to control the ball and make precise shots.
Would I recommend the Butterfly Tenergy 05 Hard Rubber?
This is a pretty high-quality rubber with great power and speed. It is not very forgiving and lets you know if your position was wrong or if your shot was too weak. I like this rubber a lot and would recommend it to everyone looking to buy one.
