Butterfly Tenergy 64-FX Table Tennis Rubber Review

Butterfly Tenergy 64 Fx Table Tennis Rubber Review - Is it worth buying?

Are you someone who loves playing table tennis but find that your rubber is hindering your progress? If yes then this is the rubber for you. With its soft sponge layer, it allows for powerful and precise attacking strokes from mid-distance.

I bought this rubber a few months ago as, my old one was wearing out, I was contemplating whether to buy it or not because the price seemed very high.

I have owned Butterfly Tenergy rubbers before and this seems to be the case with all of them but I had to admit to myself that they have value for money and decided to buy it.

A few months later I have to say that this is one of the best rubbers I have ever owned. I’m pretty average at table tennis but I can still feel a difference in my gameplay since I have started using this rubber.

It allows for faster, offensive attacks but is also great for short shots and blocking such as on the backhand. Out of all the Butterfly Tenergy rubbers I have owned I have to say this is the one that stands out, it has a longer pimple height which makes it a low throw soft rubber that still has great speed.

If you are someone who likes slow flex blades and soft rubbers but finds it hard to maintain speed, this is the one for you! It has a pretty heavy spin which allows for amazing topspin shots and good flexibility which provides for great smashes which are all features most people look for when buying a high-quality sheet.

However, if you don’t like fast-paced offensive gameplay and enjoy playing more defensively then I would recommend the Butterfly Tenergy 05 as it has more control and can be played with when closer to the table.

PROS and CONS of the rubber sheet:

Pros Cons
1. FX Soft sponge spring technology 1. Bad for chopping
2. Perfect for attack 2. Too expensive
3. Good for block shots, smashing shots, and powerful topspin shots
4. The fastest rubber in the Tenergy line
5. Good for short pushes

Let us take a deeper dive into the features and PROS and CONS of this rubber sheet.

Pros –

1. Speed:

This rubber is marketed as being the fastest rubber in the Tenergy line and I have to say that I don’t disagree, with a speed of 135 it provides me to take great offensive shots, and that too from mid-distance.

It is great on my forehand shots. Most people will think that because the rubber is low throw that it will require an upward brushing motion for it to be faster, this is wrong, when I tried the upward brushing motion the ball got super slow.

This requires a more forward motion for it to work ad the pimples are pretty long compared to most Tenergies.

2. Spin:

Is Butterfly Tenergy 64 FX Table Tennis Rubber worth buying? My personal review on the table tennis paddle rubber

The spin on this rubber is pretty low but that makes sense because the speed is pretty high. The spin is less reactive for an incoming spin but it also produces a pretty low spin but that is understandable as it has more speed and hardness.

3. Hardness:

The hardness of this rubber is pretty low which means that it provides us with more spin when not playing at a high speed. I play European-style table tennis in which the elbow is bent when looping and that is why I enjoy this rubber more.

If you play Chinese style table tennis this ribber won’t be a problem but I think that you would a rubber with a hardness closer to 45.

4. Types of shots you can do with this rubber:

This rubber is pretty much an all-rounder but it is way better at offensive play at a mid-distance than defensive play. Because it is good at offensive play, all forehand shots feel amazing with the rubber.

Smash shots and topspin shots feel super powerful. But it is also good at blocking and short pushes which is more defensive style play.

5. Design:

The chic black makes our racket look very sporty and fits the table tennis aesthetic in my opinion. I wish that they made a red version of the Butterfly Tenergy 64 FX but for now the black will do, I have no complaints whatsoever.

6. Blades and how well this ribber goes:

Should you buy Butterfly Tenergy 64 FX Table Tennis Rubber? My honest review on this ping pong rubber

I own a lot of table tennis rackets and I tried it on every single one of them. Here is my review of how well it plays with different rackets:

Sanwei f3 pro (horrible, very flat)

Nitakku violin (superb combination)

Stiga all-round classic (best blade for this rubber)

Gergely (too flat)

Dhs pg7 (good but a little flat)

If you are a PRO at table tennis then you must have known by looking at this list that this rubber goes well with a springy blade.

Cons:

We discussed the PROS, now it’s time to talk about the issues you might face with this rubber sheet. The problem that I have had with all Tenergy products so far is that they are too expensive, I feel like $80 for only one rubber is a bit much.

Most people buy two rubbers for a complete racket and just like that you’ve spent $160 on two pieces of rubber that cover your racket. Sure this is higher quality but I feel like they should either lower the prices but or add some more features to this rubber to make it better.

We talked about what shots this rubber is good at, chopping isn’t one of them as this racket had a higher, faster speed it doesn’t do well with chopping shots with its lower control.

FAQs about the Butterfly Tenergy 64 FX:

What’s the difference between this and the Tenergy 64?

The FX series uses a softer sponge spring technology compared to the standard Tenergies. Hence, the sponge on this rubber is softer compared to the Tenergy 64.

How do I assemble it?

The assembly is pretty easy and only takes up about 20-25 minutes. You will need FREE CHACK II. Read this to know how to assemble a table tennis rubber.

How many rubbers are in the package?

This comes with one rubber sheet, you will have to buy two for a complete racket. I know it is pretty costly but I would recommend getting two of the same ones as it is better to play with.

Would I recommend the Butterfly Tenergy 64 FX Rubber Sheet?

This is the fastest rubber I have ever owned and it has to hold up pretty well even after some pretty intense matches with it. Be sure to buy two as it only comes in a pack of one. Although this rubber is very expensive I would recommend it to everyone as it has great value for money.
